About CCP
Our Mission
The primary goal of Christian Cooperative Preschool is to provide a warm, caring place for children and their families to learn in a developmentally appropriate environment. Families get the opportunity to meet and work with other families and teachers who share a common understanding for the interests and needs of young children.
We strive to provide children with:
- opportunities to interact with other children in a setting conducive to the development of positive social relationships
- opportunities for meaningful play that is based on individual needs, interests and abilities and will build a foundation for future academic skills
- a stimulating environment that will appeal to children's natural curiosity to learn
- opportunities to develop in each child a sense of independence, self-worth and respect for others
- a wide variety of activities within an atmosphere where cooperative play is encouraged
- curriculum areas of art, science, cooking, movement, dramatic play, music, language and fine motor activities
- opportunities to trust their own feelings about what is learned, heard, seen and done and begin sharing these experiences with others
Our Philosophy & Curriculum- Learn Through Play
At CCP we understand that the act of playing is an important tool that influences a child's life. It is often through play that children learn to make sense of the world around them. While children play, they develop physical coordination, emotional maturity, social skills to interact with other children, and self-confidence to try new experiences and explore new environments.
All classrooms follow the 'Massachusetts Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences'. By following the state guidelines for curriculum, we provide a wide array of activities in an atmosphere that will appeal to a child's natural curiosity to learn; where cooperative activities are encouraged. CCP follows the Reading Public Schools direction regarding enrollment ages for the classrooms. Below is a small sampling of curriculum that children will learn and practice through many different formats.
- Colors, shapes and sizes
- Letters & letter sounds
- Numbers
- Positional words
- Left to right progression of words
- Rhyming
- Patterning and tallying
- Self help skills
School Enrichment
Enrichment opportunities are offered and may differ from year to year. These opportunities are available to all children attending CCP. Each session is tailored to the age level of the learner. We have offered gardening, yoga, music, author visits, librarian visits, dental visits, and a special guest for the large unit of study! In years past we have had visiting programs from The New England Aquarium, Michelle's Menagerie, Creature Teachers, The Reading Public Library, and Fire Safety with Fireman Ray to name a few. We have also had field trip opportunities to the post office, the fire station, a local book store, a farm to pick apples or pumpkins and a trip to Stone Zoo.
Nutrition
Promoting good nutrition is an important part of our curriculum. Children often help to prepare and/or cook the snack. An allergy friendly snack and water is provided daily. A brand specific snack list is periodically posted through online sign up. We are prepared for children who have severe food allergies. CCP is an allergy aware school.
Playroom
CCP has an indoor playroom used everyday by all classes. The playroom is equipped with the following:
- a climbing structure with slide
- bikes & scooters
- rocking horses
- balls & a basketball hoop
Outdoor play space added in 2022!
